Chavez Names New Vice President in Venezuela. CARACAS, (Reuters) - Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, reshuffling his cabinet two weeks after surviving a short-lived coup against him, on Sunday named his Defense Minister Jose Vicente Rangel as vice president. By Reuters. [New York Times: NYT HomePage]

Rumor has it that the exiting vice president, Diosdao Cabello, is telling friends that according to the constitution he is still president, since he was sworn by the president of the national assembly, William Lara. I would give no credence to this rumors, but why did Chavez announced only this change in his TV program?

Coup? Not Cisneros's Style. But Power? Oh, Yes.

[From the New York Times]

"The internationalization of the Cisneros Group has taken a lot of the volatility out of their operations," said José Gonzalo Muci, the chief executive of BBO Servicios Financieros, an investment banking firm here. "By limiting their exposure to Venezuela, they've actually been able to become more influential within the country."

Very good article, even if they misspelled the name of my friend José Gonzalo Muci (they wrote Maci).
