By the way, XP Won't Run on Intel MacBook, iMac. Due to Apple's use of the extensible firmware interface (EFI) rather than BIOS, current Windows releases will not run on the systems. [Via digg]. That means we'll have to wait for Distant, I mean, Vista. Get comfortable, it'll be a long wait...

Apple's new notebooks: not necessarily for bargain hunters. Blog: One thing Apple Computer didn't address with the conversion to Intel processors is the price. Apple's products still carry... [CNET News.com]
There were predictions of this argument months ago. Unfortunately, the comparison is bull. You can't configure the Gateway similar to any of the two models. A much better comparison is the Acer 8200 and it cost the same, it has arguably better features, but it doesn't have all the features. Still, Apple had to be more expensive, the CPU now costs more, they even put a camera in, they are charging the same, and the rest is similar... Some curious facts about the new MacBook Pro (horrible name, by the way). It doesn't have a modem, which for a laptop is, at least, weird. It has a new standard card (ExtremeCard) which is not PC Card compatible, so forget about using EVDO or GPRS on it for now (yeah, it will come). It uses the same memory and battery as far as can be told, but different power brick connector (if you bought extras, they are useless now). The most curious thing seems to be battery life. I would guess is better than the current Powerbooks 15' but worse than the Powerbook 12' (that is between 2 and 3 hours normal use), but the curious thing is Apple is not telling! We don't get to know if there is a nasty surprise of worse battery life (after all, new screen, graphic and camera all consume power). The final irony (Alanis sense): Now the same people that told you the G5 was faster than the Intel processors will tell you the Intel processors are faster than the G5.
