Is There Too Much Enthusiasm Over Wireless?. [Slashdot] Way too much! People think wiring a whole city is like wiring a home. Even wiring an office is a lot tougher than just putting a couple of access points, there are a lot of issues to sort out if you want uniform access. Imagine that in the spread of miles and miles of a city centre and, to top it all, it is outside, so issues of power, placement, etc place a huge role. That's why I say that cell phone companies will win this... They know how to deal with all these issues.

A Party Girl Leads China's Online Revolution. Chinese Web logs are giving flesh to the kind of free-spoken civil society the government is determined to prevent. By HOWARD W. FRENCH.
