General Says Chavez Is Out, Armed Forces Control Venezuela

But nobody knows where Chavez is and the presidential palace, Miraflores, is still not under control of the forces not loyal with Chavez. Chavez is repeatedly being called the "Chacal of Miraflores".

A voice without image in the official channel announces that they have taken over. Now that is the only channel that can not be seen. Rumor has it that Chavez left the country. It would fit the profile.

What Cynicism

The criminals on the government are in the official channel, saying that everything is normal, not a tear shed for the dead. The shame on this people will be eternal... They are damn!

In mourning for Venezuela

There are rumors that the electricity is cut. It is unclear who has control of the armed forces. Salas Romer, ex presidential candidate, has just said that the High Command has been forcefully destituted. I hope this is so. Everybody is saying that Chavez is a criminal, that is how we shall remember him.
I put the main page of patilla.com all black with the words "In mourning for Venezuela". See if you can convince your company to do that as quickly as I did mine... I am proud of working there.

The television is showing a member of the Council of the Libertador County cowardly shooting the demonstrators. The name of the killer is Richard Peñalver.
8:00:43 PM  What do you think? ( Thoughts) Who linked? []

Bloody Thursday

The mayor of Chacao says that Chavez is a killer and has the blood of the people. He has bullets from FALs the weapon of the National Guard.
7:52:13 PM Google It! What do you think? ( Thoughts) Who linked? []

Another killing irony

While the first civilian, José Vicente Rangel, is secretary of defense, the arms of Venezuela are turned towards its citizens. What does he think? Is he ashamed? Can any member of this government say that they want peace? Shame on them! The blood of your people are in your hands...

While president Chavez was talking on TV, taking TV stations off-air, both the national guard and members of the facists Circulo Bolivariano, where killing the demonstrators. This coward attitude has been documented by the same television stattions that are presumably closed.

11 of April 2002

Will be remember as the day when murder return to venezuelans politics.

Chavez promised to never turn the guns to the people. The military has lost all prestige it may have had... The yelling continues, I wonder if they think they can govern now.
6:36:36 PM  What do you think? ( Thoughts) Who linked? []

Chavez coward killer

That is what people are yelling. We may never know how many people have died, but there are people yelling "Chavez, killer", he will certainly past to history as the first venezuelan president of the democratic period that has order the militaries to kill people. The yells of "Chavez, coward".
6:34:54 PM Google It! What do you think? ( Thoughts) Who linked? []

They are killing people here!

The TV Stations have regain signal. It seems that is illegal, they are giving the signal to CNN. It seems this is done through one of the stations. it was protected by police not loyal to the country. At least five people are dead and dozens hurt, including local government officials in particular the governor of Miranda.
The government is not in full control of the situation as several militaries officials have declared through radio that the armed forces should not be used against the people.
The irony is huge, the man who gave up his coup attempt in order, his words, to save lives. Today declared violence on the people.
The rumor is that most deaths were caused by snipers posted in near by buildings.

We have lost all our freedoms

The government of Venezuela has closed all private television stations. There is fighting reported in the center of Caracas, at least one dead.

Andreessen.  Digital copy protection is doomed.   >>>Andreessen applied Moore's law -- the prediction by Intel co-founder Gordon Moore that computational power would double every 18 months -- to predict the transformation of digital entertainment. The cheapest computer -- say, an eMachines box -- comes with a 20-gigabyte hard drive, enough storage space for 400 CDs worth of music. Within five years, that same $600 PC would have the capacity to hold 12,800 hours of music -- a veritable Tower Records available at the click of a mouse.<<<   This is the same argument I made.  Cool. The main problem in Venezuela is the media, especially the TV stations. That is another lie. The main problem is him. Get out.
4:17:46 PM  What do you think? ( Thoughts) Who linked? []

He is talking history and is saying nothing of the current situation. He is out of touch. His arm mob comes to pray and sing he says. He is a liar and not very good one at that. I keep wondering why people like him.
4:16:22 PM  What do you think? ( Thoughts) Who linked? []

The sound comes ang goes. It is shameful. He is calling the very peaceful march a provocation. While his savages are just the "people". What a crock...
4:14:08 PM  What do you think? ( Thoughts) Who linked? []

The audio is not synch with the video, he just said the time to prove it wasn't recorded. His watch is ahead by 5 minutes or so.
4:11:55 PM  What do you think? ( Thoughts) Who linked? []

He is not being conciliatory at all. He is not asking for dialogue. He still insist in stupid things and has not mentioned PDVSA yet. If anyone believe him, they are deluded...
4:08:06 PM  What do you think? ( Thoughts) Who linked? []

Sound is better now, he is saying there was no strike, that is a lie.
4:03:54 PM  What do you think? ( Thoughts) Who linked? []

I can barely hear what he is saying. He said the subway made four times more money today that the other days of the strike, of course, that was the people going to the march.
4:02:03 PM  What do you think? ( Thoughts) Who linked? []

The sound is terrible and I think there may be interference, but it seems to come from the origin...
3:57:54 PM  What do you think? ( Thoughts) Who linked? []

He just said that he was very fair, communicative and that he had tried his best to accommodate positions different from his. Then he called the opposition irrational. Yeah, right
3:56:28 PM  What do you think? ( Thoughts) Who linked? []

I haven't heard or seen Chavez talk much, but I don't see the charisma that some people ascribe to him. He still hasn't said anything barely mentioning the facts of these few days just to say that the prove that there is democracy, obviously forgetting the abuse on the TV stations made on monday. The sound is very bad now...
3:53:59 PM  What do you think? ( Thoughts) Who linked? []

He says that the opposition is not loyal and has been spreading lies. The situation is the opposite.
3:50:32 PM  What do you think? ( Thoughts) Who linked? []

He isn't sorry and clearly doesn't feel guilty. I wonder if he will mention the real issues like PDVSA.
3:48:06 PM  What do you think? ( Thoughts) Who linked? []

The pot banging has begun again and it is huge. Chavez seems out of touch with reality.
3:46:41 PM  What do you think? ( Thoughts) Who linked? []

He isn't saying anything, he keeps talking about the past. I wonder if the military is doing anything while the television is distracted.
3:45:31 PM  What do you think? ( Thoughts) Who linked? []

Another government announcement. It's Chavez this time. He insist of calling the march a minority, is he crazy? He hasn't watch television? There is a mob near the palace! Don't insult it!
3:43:04 PM  What do you think? ( Thoughts) Who linked? []

It seems the Metropolitan police in one hand and the National Guard on the other have manage to maintain the mobs separated.
3:36:18 PM  What do you think? ( Thoughts) Who linked? []

What is Fidel Castro thinking now? He has expressed all his support to Chavez. Does he care that the venezuelan people does not want Chavez? Probably not...
3:13:44 PM  What do you think? ( Thoughts) Who linked? []

President Chavez, please resign. Stop this blood shed, asks your people to leave, get together with the leaders of the opposition and find a way out of this that doesn't involve violence. Please.
3:03:47 PM  What do you think? ( Thoughts) Who linked? []

Whatever blood is shed today is certainly the responsability of the government. They have been saying everything is normal and that only a minority is against the government, challenging the opposition to prove that isn't true. The opposition has done so today.
I hear planes flying overhead. Can they do anything from up there?
3:01:06 PM  What do you think? ( Thoughts) Who linked? []

For the first time in three days the government has used the national emergency system, it was the Military High Command, sans the Defense Secretary. He denied rumors I hadn't heard, like that Chavez was detained, he said Chavez is at the presidential palace and said the situation is normal... What stupidity, there is a mob moving to the presidential palace and another mob waiting there, how is that normal? for God sakes!
The president hasn't talked yet, which is weird. He appears coward with his silence. Total courage would be, in my opinion, to resign. But at least, he should say something...
2:20:45 PM  What do you think? ( Thoughts) Who linked? []

The official TV channel is asking government supporters to go to Miraflores, the presidential palace, where the anti government demonstration has, imprudently, in my opinion, decided to go. The other TV channels are not showing the amount of people waiting for this demonstration.
The anti government demonstration is certainly much bigger, but the other is big enough to cause problems. Neither seems to be willing to back down. I am afraid bloodshed is inevitable...
2:01:37 PM  What do you think? ( Thoughts) Who linked? []

Mass hysteria has taken over. The march is going to the presidential palace, where pro government fascists are waiting. This is not good...

The March

Chavez go away, you are fired!
11:33:53 AM Google It! What do you think? ( Thoughts) Who linked? []

The march is simply amazing! It already arrived to its destination, but there are still lots of people in the starting point...
A group will attempt to give roses to the members of the National Guard that are at the office building of PDVSA.
Chavez you are fired! says a banner.
There is talk of going to the presidential palace... I hope nothing bad happens.
10:59:31 AM  What do you think? ( Thoughts) Who linked? []

Isn't it ironic that the government has made efforts to open the subway system, the people going to the march are using it? The march has no leaders, the people talking on TV are just that: people.
I still wonder if this is strong enough to succeed, considering that only the resignation of the president would be consider a victory.

Caracas in General Strike

With mixed feelings I saw some stores were open, some close. The one I wanted to go to, MailBoxes Etc, to get my mail, was closed. Good for them. many people were going to the march. Here are the pictures I promised.

I am the number 5 Alfredo in Google out of almost a million. impressive, no?
8:42:23 AM  What do you think? ( Thoughts) Who linked? []

It seems that the call for a general strike was just wishful thinking in the part of the opposition as reports indicate that most stores are opening today and receiving merchandise. If the strike turns out to be a farce, the opposition will be crushed. I hope this is not so, but right now I think it is...

Why propoganda is more compelling than messy truth

Michael Bernstein answers Miguel de Icaza "How the conflict started?" question...
Here are some choice snippet:
You only have to ask where are the pro-Israel Arabs to realize that there are practically none such, except those who are Israeli citizens, and are participants in Israel's democracy.
I say, show me an Arab leader or Palestinian official who has shed a single tear for the civilian victims of suicide bombers, or who has called for accomodating the Israelis, or who has even advocated passive resistance as an alternative to terrorism, and then we can discuss Israel's 'injustice', 'aggression', and 'oppression'.

Less calm that yesterday?

Things are less quiet in Caracas today. I don't know if the strike is loosing force, or it's just a consequence of two days of not going to work. There one big march today, people may be preparing for it.
I heard rumors that yesterday several stores were open, I will go out today around noon to check the situation, I'll post pictures.

On Being an Ally

By William Safire.

Only when Yasir Arafat agrees to a cease-fire and demonstrates his ability to end his suicide-bomber aggression can Israel begin to withdraw its defense forces from suicide cities.

Only when Yasir Arafat agrees to a cease-fire and demonstrates his ability to end his suicide-bomber aggression can Israel begin to withdraw its defense forces from suicide cities. That was the agreement sought by Bush's envoy, Gen. Anthony Zinni, reluctantly agreed to by Israel's prime minister, Ariel Sharon, and contemptuously rejected by Arafat.

America cannot insist that Israel stop fighting terror without insisting that Arafat's death squads stop committing terror. America cannot pulverize the bases of Al Qaeda terrorists after we are attacked [~] while pressuring an ally to meekly accept losses when its citizens are murdered by Al Qaeda's brothers.
